IlluminEyes™ – Is it safe for Smokers and ex-Smokers?
Vitamin A can be obtained from three sources: as preformed retinol found in animal sources such as dairy, certain meats, and fish; as provitamin A, called Beta-carotene, found in plant pigments; or as synthetic vitamin A. There are some concerns in the medical community surrounding smokers taking supplements with vitamin A, that it can cause an increase in lung cancer for a small percentage of the participants. The studies that are sited were based on previous data pooling of other studies where people took a multivitamin containing synthetic vitamin A. Other studies were conducted using retinoids, a form of vitamin A derived from animals, that showed an increase in lung cancer in patients who were smokers. Beta-carotene is vitamin A found naturally in fruits and vegetables. Studies have shown protective activity when using this form of vitamin A. Not all vitamin A is equal. It is important to know your source.
IlluminEyes™ uses Beta-carotene sourced from Wolfberries, Acerola Cherries, and Marigold Flowers. If you are a smoker, and are concerned, you are welcome to make your own choice when it comes to IlluminEyes™, however the vitamin A is derived from natural plant sources, and if there was a valid medical caution, Young Living® would have put that caution on the label.
