This can be such a heated topic. Please know I’m not discounting a reaction but rather offering up word choices. It may be better to adopt the term “allergen-like response” rather than “allergen” or “allergic reaction” based on the science behind how allergens are created. If we’re using the strictly technical definition of “allergen,” people cannot be allergic to essential oils except in the uncommon cases of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). People sometimes have adverse responses to oils that can mimic an allergic reaction. We need to be understanding with those who swear they are allergic because a reaction is still a reaction. If your friend does not feel comfortable using oils allow them the freedom to decide on their own.
